Our History
Down Jersey Coalition started on a bus to the Women’s March held in Washington, D.C. on January 21, 2017, the day after Trump’s first inauguration. Inspired by the spirit of the day and the apprehension as to what was going to happen, we started meeting to find a way we could respond. In order to get as many liberal and progressive candidates elected as possible, our meetings during the Felon’s first term were dedicated to getting to know the mid-term candidates, postcarding (even for Andy Kim’s first campaign for the House of Representatives even though he wasn’t running in D2), meetings with Rep. LoBiondo, as well as many protests outside of his office.
DJC went dormant during the Biden Administration, but came back strong in early 2025. We support a combination of street protests and vigils, education on candidates and their platforms, and campaigning for liberal and progressive candidates running in New Jersey Legislative Districts 1 and 3, and New Jersey’s US Congressional District 2.
